Young Africans Leadership Initiative, YALI is a Mandela Washington Fellowship flagship program, focused on bringing African civic, business, and community leaders for academic coursework, leadership training, and networking.
The YALI TechCamp Reconnect Workshop is an initiative of the U.S. Department of Stateโs Bureau for International Information Programmes (IIP) and organised in partnership with the U.S. Mission in Nigeria and the Co-Creation Hub (CCHub).
The three-day programme, which started on Wednesday, had Russell Brooks, Public Affairs Officer, U.S. Consulate, giving an opening remark in which he stated that the essence of the programme was to assist the young participants contribute to the development of African continent.
โThe TechCamp has brought together 46 participants from 15 countries. When former U.S. president, Barack Obama, established the Young African Leaders Initiative in 2014, he did so out of the conviction that the future of Africa is largely in the hands of its youth,โ said Russell Brooks.

For John Bray, United States Consul General in Lagos, in providing support for this initiative, the U.S. government had demonstrated its belief that real solutions to African problems can best be developed by Africans.

He stated that their desire was to help young people tackle some of their very serious problems.

The United States of America has identified corruption as one of the factors hampering development of the continent, adding that it is the belief of the government that solution can only come from among the people.

During the three-day workshop, participants worked with local and international experts like Nigeriaโs own Abisoye Ajayi-Akinfolarin, the coding hero and founder of Pearls Africa Youth Foundation, on best practices in applying low-cost technology tools and digital strategies to design and implement projects that promote good governance, transparency, and citizen engagement across the continent.
Africa is plagued by poverty, gender inequality, poor health indices, bad governance and non- adherence to the rule of law, among other problems. Many youths are developing ideas and learning skills to address these problems.
Challenges facing Africa are numerous.They range from poverty and poor governance to gender inequality and armed conflict, among others.
It was a platform to discuss technological solutions to problems they had discovered in their environments.
On Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at 10 am a delegation of PLANรTE PEIX proceeded to the official presentation of the Declaration of the Young Champions of November 2018, to the Secretary of State for Civic Service. This delegation led by the President of the Organization Mr. Achille COMOE was composed of Mr. Florent YAO and Miss Rose KOUAME. The members were received in audience by Mr. ASSUI Anderson (Cabinet Director), Mr. SIDIBE Bakary (Technical Adviser) and Mr. BAMBA Amadou (Study Officer). At this meeting, the Director of Cabinet Mr ASSUI, after welcoming the delegation, asked for the news. President Achille COMOE first thanked the Secretariat for its support during the summit. Afterwars, he presented the Young Championsโ Program. In addition, the President requested the Secretariat’s support for future activities. He also pointed out that PLANETE PAIX will help the Secretariat in its mission. Continuing his intervention, the Principal Officer of the Organization informed his hosts that as part of the Peace Digital Elections Program, PLANETE PAIX is organizing in April 2019 an awareness campaign in the Regions of Grands Ponts and Gbรชkรจ. For the Secretary of State, PLANETE PAIX a highly-credible and respected organization. They will not hesitate a moment for this purpose to support its mission for the well being of the Society. A meeting is planned in the coming days with the Secretary of State for Civic Service who has been elevated to the rank of Honorary Member of the Young Championsโ Program. He received for the occasion a book on leadership and personal development. This book, it should be noted is part of the 200 books received from the US Embassy in Cรดte d’Ivoire during the Summit. As part of the contribution of the Civil Society in the work on the Voluntary National Review PLANETE PAIX participated on Friday March 03, 2019 in the Plateau District Hall to an information and communication workshop of civil society actors on the SDGs. The Organization was represented for the occasion by the President of COCODY M. KOI ALEX. For more efficiency of our actions consultations will be done as well in the economic capital that is to say in Abidjan as in the city of Bouakรฉ. At the end of these consultations, civil society actors will take part in a capitalization workshop. The President of ISCODD-CI emphasized the uniqueness of the Voluntary National Review. In other words, there is a single document to be presented in New York. This review will contain all the actions carried out by all the actors of Sustainable Development. To do this, these national consultations will be used to capitalize on the achievements and to collect the innovative experiences observed on the ground. The preparation of this document takes into account the following Sustainable Development Objectives : objectives 4-8-10-16-17 and the reports of other actors. Our Country Cรดte d’Ivoire is one of the countries chosen this year 2019, to present their annual review. PLANETE PEACE will participate in the preparation of Cรดte d’Ivoire’s contribution to the place of volunteering in achieving the SDGs with UNDP with other CSOs. Indeed, as part of the monitoring of the SDGs, each year a number of States come to present their National Voluntary Review (RNV) on the occasion of the High Level Political Forum which meets in July at the United Nations Headquarters in Paris. New York. These reviews help to track progress in achieving the SDGs in countries, identify lessons learned and gaps. Each country will present at least two journals by 2030. In 2019, 51 countries will present their NVR. For each Forum, the United Nations identifies a specific theme around which national journals should focus, and SDGs to review. For 2019, the theme of the Forum is “Empowering People and Ensuring Inclusion and Equity” and a focus is on five SDGs: SDG 4 “Quality Education”, SDG 8 “Decent Work and Growth Economic Development “, SDG 13” Combating Climate Change “, SDG 16” Peace, Justice and Effective Institutions “and SDG 17” Partnerships for Achieving Goals “(SDG 17 is reviewed annually) .
