IVORIAN AUTHORITIES CONSULT CSOs

PLANÈTE PAIX was among the SCOs invited to the 4th meeting chaired by the Minister of the Interior and Security and the Minister of Women, Child Protection and Solidarity as part of the consultations of the Society Civilian by the Ivorian authorities on Tuesday, June 5, 2018, at 4 pm, at the conference room of the Ministry of the Interior and Security. Indeed, it was a question of exchanging on topical topics which have been the object of particular concerns on the part of the Civil Society these last weeks such as:
the phenomenon of delinquent children and domestic security;
the marital status and identity cards;
national reconciliation and the point on compensation for victims.
In the course of the meeting, the Minister of Child Protection and Solidarity state-of-the-art on the compensation of the victims which has only took into account the deceased persons and those who have suffered bodily injuries. Following him, the Minister of the Interior and Security pointed out that the civil status in Côte d’Ivoire has been the subject of several demographic studies and that these studies have shown that 35% of children under the age of 5 years are not declared to the registry office. Thus, in the search for solutions, the State of Côte d’Ivoire set up a technical committee that resulted in strategic and operational evaluations. And strategic and operational assessments are contained in a document called the National Vital and Identification Strategy. The national civil registration and identification strategy will enable us to design a unique, integrated, global, reliable and secure identification system that will centralize all the biometric and biological data of each Ivorian and will allow to attribute to each individual a Unique National Number or UNN. This number will allow traceability of all individuals, the constitution of a unique biometric database, the improvement of the efficiency of the public service, the optimization of social and tax policy, the aggregation of all data on the same individual but especially the quick and easy issuance of identity documents, ie national identity cards, nationality certificates, driving licenses, passports, the birth certificate, Resident cards in short, everything that an individual living in a territory needs to make his life easier. This will also allow any Ivorian regardless of his geographical location to be able to obtain the document having to do with his identity. In addition, he reviewed the mechanisms put in place to curb the phenomenon of children in conflict with the law. Exchanges between the authorities and civil society organizations sanctioned the meeting to fix the grey areas.
